About the film

What begins as a search for a missing father takes a decidedly strange turn in In Search of My Moehau, a darkly comic found-footage mockumentary set deep in the New Zealand bush.

Morris Fubbins is convinced his father has been taken by a mythical creature. As his search unfolds, folklore, obsession and the absurd collide in this offbeat New Zealand feature, which brings a distinctly Kiwi twist to the found-footage tradition popularised by The Blair Witch Project.

A special screening

Hot off the festival circuit, In Search of My Moehau enjoyed a successful run at Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival, screening in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Masterton.

We're delighted to welcome this film to Circus Cinema, Martinborough, for its first theatrical release screening as part of Te Waiwhakaata Wairarapa Film Festival's Spring Sessions 2026. Directors Kieran Charnock and Jonathan Watt have strong Wairarapa connections and have been making films together for more than 20 years.

Join us on Saturday 7 November at 3pm to experience this wonderfully unconventional local film on the big screen.
